Evidence can disappear as soon as a website receives a notice, but collecting too much can create unnecessary copies of sensitive material. The objective is to preserve enough context to identify the violation, demonstrate what was public and track the request.
Record identifiers first
Copy the complete URL, page title, account name, visible upload date and the date and time you accessed the page. If the content is embedded, note both the page URL and any direct media URL that is already visible without downloading the file.
Capture context, not excess material
Take screenshots showing the page header, title, surrounding text and the relevant violation. Crop or redact unrelated personal information. Avoid saving or forwarding the entire intimate video unless a legitimate process specifically requires it.
- Full URL in the browser address bar.
- Page title and website name.
- Uploader or account identifier.
- Date, time and visible engagement data.
- Search query and result snippet when relevant.
Keep an action log
Record every report, recipient, submission date, reference number and response. Save confirmation emails or screenshots of submitted forms. This avoids duplicated notices and supports later escalation.
Store evidence securely
Use an access-controlled folder, strong password and encrypted device where practical. Limit access to people directly involved in the case. Do not upload evidence to public sharing services.
A confidential, case-specific approach
